Araghchi Blasts US ‘New Definition of Diplomacy’: This is Dictation, Not Negotiation

Tehran - BORNA - Araghchi's response followed statements made on Tuesday by Morgan Ortagus, the Deputy Special Envoy for West Asia, during a UN Security Council session regarding negotiations with Iran. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, the Iranian top diplomat sarcastically highlighted what he called the "U.S.'s new definition of diplomacy."

"The U.S. new definition of diplomacy: 'We are ready for a meaningful negotiation, but forget about your recognized international rights!'" Araghchi wrote, emphasizing that "This is dictation, not negotiation; let alone a meaningful one!"

The Foreign Minister reminded the international community of past events, stating: "The world witnessed that we were in the middle of negotiations when the United States decided to open fire on our people and tear diplomacy apart. And we did what we always do: we crushed those who attacked us and made them regret their actions."

Araghchi further criticized Washington’s contradictory behavior, noting that "reaching out for diplomacy" does not involve sending bombers and then "proudly portraying their failure as a success."

The high-ranking Iranian diplomat concluded his message by advising American officials: "Instead of trying to deceive the world, turn to real and honorable diplomacy."
