Tehran - BORNA - In a strategic and surprising move, Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has been appointed as the new Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) by a direct decree from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
During an official ceremony held on Wednesday, which was attended by the IRGC Commander-in-Chief, the representative of the Leader in the IRGC, the chief of the Leader’s military office, and other senior commanders, General Vahidi formally assumed his new role. Simultaneously, Brigadier General Ali Fadavi was honored for his years of service as the previous deputy commander and has been appointed as the head of the advisory group to the Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC.
Brigadier General Vahidi, born Ahmad Shahcheraghi in 1958 in Shiraz, is a veteran commander with decades of military, security, and executive experience. He is widely recognized as the founder of the IRGC Quds Force and has previously served in high-level positions including Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior. With a PhD in Strategic Studies and an academic background in Electronics and Industrial Engineering, Vahidi is considered one of Iran’s leading strategic minds, bringing a unique combination of academic expertise and operational experience to his new position.
This appointment comes at a time when the IRGC, as a central pillar of Iran’s defense and security architecture, must maintain its high level of preparedness amid current regional instability. Bringing a commander with extensive experience in extraterritorial operations and internal security into a senior leadership role signals a focus on operational readiness and strategic coordination. This change is also expected to enhance cooperation between the IRGC and the General Staff of the Armed Forces, particularly regarding personnel needs which were specifically emphasized by the Leader in the decree.
During the introduction ceremony, Brigadier General Vahidi stated that the IRGC must embody the principles of an Islamic government and society. He described himself as a humble servant committed to advancing the missions of the organization and ensuring the security of Iran through a revolutionary approach.
