Zare Crowned Champion as Iran Secures First Gold in World Freestyle Wrestling

Iran’s freestyle wrestling representative in the 125kg weight class, Amirhossein Zare, claimed the nation’s first gold medal at the World Championships after a commanding victory in the final.

Tehran - BORNA - The finals of the first four weight categories of the Senior World Freestyle Wrestling Championships were held tonight in Zagreb, Croatia.

Zare, who received a bye in the opening round, dominated Yanovan Smith of Puerto Rico 11–0 in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals. There, he overpowered Solomon Manashvili of Georgia with another 10–0 technical victory, moving confidently into the semifinals.

In the semifinal clash, Zare defeated Shamil Sharifov of Bahrain 7–3 to secure his place in the final. Facing Giorgi Meshvilidze of Azerbaijan for the gold medal, Zare delivered another flawless performance, winning 5–0 and securing Iran’s first gold medal of the tournament.
