Iran’s national fencing teams marked a major milestone on Thursday with the inauguration of their dedicated training camp, the Shahid Kolahdouz Hall, following a full renovation project supported by the Ministry of Sports and Youth.

Tehran - BORNA - According to the Iranian Fencing Federation, the facility, long in need of refurbishment, has now been fully modernized to serve as the permanent base for the training camps of Iran’s national fencing squads.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Ahmad Donyamali, Minister of Sports and Youth; Seyed Mohammad Shervin Asbaghian, Deputy for Championship Sports; Ali Javadipour, Director General of Sports and Youth of Tehran Province; Alireza Poursalman, President of the Iranian Fencing Federation; members of Tehran’s city council and municipal officials; as well as Mohammad Abdi, National Teams Manager, alongside several of Iran’s leading fencers including Mohammad Rahbari, Ali Pakdaman, Farzad Baher Arasbaran, Mahla Mohammadzadeh, Mehdi Faraji, and Amir Yeganeh.

The renovated complex covers 350 square meters and was completed in under a year, symbolizing the federation’s commitment to strengthening the infrastructure of fencing as one of Iran’s fastest-rising sports.

Significance of the New Facility

The inauguration of the national camp represents more than just the opening of a renovated hall—it is an investment in the long-term future of Iranian fencing. Over the past decade, Iranian fencers have achieved growing success on the Asian and world stage, with sabre specialists such as Ali Pakdaman and Mojtaba Abedini making podium appearances in major competitions, and the women’s teams steadily gaining ground internationally.

With the new national camp in place, the athletes will benefit from:

Consistent high-level preparation for continental and world championships, as well as Olympic qualifiers.

Centralized training that brings together Iran’s top male and female fencers under one roof, fostering synergy and competitive spirit.

Modern infrastructure that can help reduce reliance on overseas training camps, ensuring resources are invested domestically.

The presence of top athletes at the inauguration also underscored the significance of the project for the fencing community, signaling a unified push toward elevating Iran’s status in the sport.

The establishment of the camp also reflects Iran’s broader strategy to strengthen sports diplomacy and project national pride through athletic achievement. Fencing, with its deep cultural resonance as a discipline of precision, agility, and honor, aligns well with Iran’s ambition to expand its global sporting footprint.

As Iran continues to invest in facilities and infrastructure across various Olympic sports, the Shahid Kolahdouz Hall stands as a tangible example of how sports development can both inspire young athletes and reinforce the country’s competitive edge on the international stage.
