Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation with Iran, praising Tehran’s principled stance on the issue of Kosovo and its adherence to international law.

Tehran - BORNA - According to a statement released by the Office of the President of Serbia on Wednesday, President Vucic received the credentials of Mohammad Sadegh Fazeli, the newly appointed Iranian ambassador to Serbia, and expressed gratitude for Iran’s steadfast position in refusing to recognize Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence.

In a post shared on his official Instagram account, Vucic wrote: “In this way, Iran has demonstrated its commitment to the fundamental principles of international law. We hope that this country’s support for Serbia on the issue of the Kosovo–Metohija province and in international organizations will continue.”

Kosovo, which has a long history of tension and conflict with Serbia, unilaterally declared independence in 2008 — a move recognized by many Western countries but rejected by others, including Russia, China, and Iran. Serbia continues to regard Kosovo as an integral part of its sovereign territory.

Welcoming the new Iranian ambassador, President Vucic wished him success in his diplomatic mission, expressing strong confidence that Fazeli’s efforts and engagement would play a valuable role in deepening relations between the two nations.

Vucic further noted that Serbia remains committed to expanding bilateral cooperation with Iran in areas such as culture, sports, and youth affairs.
