Tehran - BORNA - In his letter, Donyamali praised the Spanish nation for its long-standing commitment to values such as freedom, justice, and human dignity, describing Spain’s sports community as “a source of inspiration for millions around the world” and a symbol of “solidarity, courage, and mutual respect.”
“Today, the international sports community faces a serious challenge,” Donyamali wrote. “The continued participation of the Israeli regime — the gravest violator of international law — in international sporting events has become a major threat to the moral integrity of global sports.”
He noted that the Israeli regime, through decades of “inhumane actions, occupation of territories, discriminatory policies, and systematic violations of human rights,” has revealed its true character to the world.
“Allowing such a regime to remain active in international sports,” he said, “turns this universal language of unity into a tool that legitimizes apartheid and discrimination.”
The Iranian minister recalled the historic suspension of apartheid-era South Africa from global sports as a powerful precedent. “That decision proved that the world of sports, inspired by the principles of the Olympic Charter, can play a decisive role in confronting apartheid and systemic discrimination,” he added.
Donyamali stressed that Spain, as a country with a distinguished position in the European Union and international community — and with a proud record in global sports — “can play a pivotal role in building an international consensus” to suspend Israel’s participation in sports competitions.
He called on Spain’s Ministry of Education and Sports to work closely with other European nations and formally propose the suspension of Israel in relevant international sports bodies.
“I am confident,” Donyamali concluded, “that Spain, as one of the world’s pioneers in sports, will once again affirm its commitment to justice, ethics, and respect for international law within global sporting arenas.”
