Tehran - BORNA - The TASS news agency reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the agreement, bringing it into force immediately.
"This agreement takes relations between Moscow and Caracas to a new level and covers all important areas of bilateral cooperation," said Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Russian State Duma (Parliament).
Presidents Putin and Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela had agreed to advance this strategic partnership during Maduro's visit to Moscow in May.
Context of US Pressure
The signing of the agreement comes as Caracas faces serious pressure from Washington. The United States claims that President Maduro is directly involved in drug trafficking and has placed a $50 million bounty on his head.
In recent weeks, the U.S. has targeted Venezuelan boats off its coast, claiming the vessels were carrying drugs.
Maduro recently warned against a direct U.S. military intervention in Venezuela, stating that President Trump was engaging in warmongering against him.
