Iranian weightlifter Iliya Salehipour delivered an outstanding performance in the 88kg category at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games held in Saudi Arabia, securing three medals — one gold, one silver, and one bronze.

Tehran - BORNA - On the third day of the competition on Monday, Salehipour shone in the snatch event, lifting 162 kg to clinch the first weightlifting gold medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh.

In the clean and jerk, he started strong by successfully lifting 191 kg, and then 197 kg on his second attempt. Although he missed the 202 kg lift in his final try, his 197 kg effort earned him the bronze medal in this category.

With a total of 359 kg, Salehipour also won the silver medal in the combined ranking, marking an impressive hat-trick of medals — gold in snatch, bronze in clean and jerk, and silver overall.

The Islamic Solidarity Games, organized by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF), aims to foster unity, friendship, and sportsmanship among Muslim-majority nations.

The 2025 edition in Riyadh features thousands of athletes from over 50 countries competing in more than 20 sports disciplines.
