The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong statement on Wednesday condemning recent U.S. threats against Venezuela, asserting that no power has the right to interfere in Caracas’s internal affairs and that the nation possesses an inherent right to self-defense under the United Nations Charter.

Tehran - BORNA - In its official communiqué, the Iranian Foreign Ministry strictly denounced Washington’s provocative measures, specifically the threat of a naval blockade and efforts to obstruct Venezuela's legal oil exports. The ministry described these actions as clear manifestations of a policy rooted in systematic bullying and the use of force, which constitute a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the principles of freedom of navigation and international trade.

The statement further characterized any U.S. attempt to seize or impede the free movement of commercial vessels traveling to or from Venezuela as a "prime example of state piracy and armed robbery at sea." Tehran emphasized that citing U.S. domestic laws or unilateral, illegal sanctions cannot serve as a legitimate basis to justify such criminal acts on the international stage.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry underscored that threatening a blockade against a sovereign UN member state violates the core principles of national sovereignty and territorial integrity. It reiterated that under the fundamental tenets of the UN Charter, Venezuela maintains the right to defend itself against any form of external aggression or foreign threat.

Warning against the consequences of Washington’s "belligerent unilateralism," the statement noted that if the global community and the United Nations fail to respond responsibly, such actions will set a dangerous precedent and normalize lawlessness in international relations, ultimately jeopardizing global peace and security.

The statement concluded by calling upon the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and all responsible governments to condemn the illegal and coercive measures of the United States. Tehran urged these international bodies to hold the U.S. administration accountable for its continued breaches of international legal standards and the UN Charter.
