Tehran - BORNA - House Speaker Mike Johnson issued a statement on Monday afternoon urging young conservatives to prevent Democrats from reclaiming the House majority next year. He warned that a decisive Republican defeat would lead to a renewed push by "radical leftists" to impeach President Trump.
According to a report by the Washington Examiner, during the annual "AmFest" conference in Phoenix, Arizona, Johnson stated: "Everything is at stake in the 2026 midterm elections, and we have much more work to do. If we lose the House majority, as you’ve heard before, the radical left will impeach President Trump."
He further added: "The radical left in the United States will create absolute chaos, and we cannot allow this to happen."
The warning comes as Donald Trump’s approval ratings have plummeted to their lowest levels since his first term in office. This decline has darkened the outlook for the Republican Party heading into the 2026 midterms.
Last week, CNN reporter Harry Enten reacted to a new poll showing that two out of three Americans believe the country is on the "wrong track." Enten noted: "Current statistics suggest that the Republican Party is on a trajectory to lose the House of Representatives."
If Democrats successfully regain the majority next year, an impeachment motion could proceed effectively, provided that most or all House Democrats vote in favor, depending on the strength of their hypothetical majority.
The 2026 U.S. midterm elections are scheduled for November 3, 2026, during which all seats in the House of Representatives and several Senate seats will be contested.
