A prominent Russian political figure revealed that President Vladimir Putin has rejected a potential proposal from Donald Trump to sever ties with Iran in exchange for concessions in Ukraine, emphasizing instead the expansion of Tehran-Moscow relations.

Tehran - BORNA - Sergei Baburin, a former Deputy of the Russian State Duma, addressed these strategic developments during a ceremony commemorating General Qassem Soleimani. Baburin noted that while Trump appears inclined toward a deal where the U.S. would effectively "hand over" Ukraine to Russia, the price demanded is Russia’s withdrawal from its cooperation with Iran.

"Trump’s demand is for Russia to support the U.S. in its confrontations with Iran and China," Baburin stated. "However, Putin has rejected this demand, refusing even to discuss it with Trump. Instead, the Russian President insists that relations between Tehran and Moscow must expand across all sectors even further than before."

The Legacy of General Soleimani

Highlighting the role of General Soleimani in defending Islamic values, Baburin described the late commander as a warrior against "global evil." He noted that Soleimani taught the world how to fight a hypocritical, multi-faced entity, of which global Zionism is a key part. "We must continue his path, which ultimately leads to the liberation of Al-Quds as the capital of Palestine and the end of Zionist occupation," he added.

Russia’s Shift in the 12-Day War

During the session held at the Shahid Avini Faculty of Media and Cyberspace, Baburin responded to concerns regarding Russia's stance during the 12-day conflict between Iran, the Zionist regime, and the U.S. He dismissed claims that Moscow failed to support Tehran, noting a significant shift in Russian policy.

"In the past, the Zionist lobby had a major influence on the formation of the Russian government," Baburin explained. "However, in this war, for the first time, Russia provided no assistance to Israel. Iran was in the right during this 12-day conflict and succeeded in delivering serious blows to Israel."

The Cultural Divergence from the West

The Russian activist also reflected on Russia’s internal shift over the past few years, stating that the country has successfully distanced itself from Western influence. He claimed that while the West is "collapsing" due to its distancing from religious and traditional values—often under the guise of human rights—Russia has returned to a constitution that emphasizes respect for God and religion.

"Russia was following a similar Western path until 2020, but the direction has since changed. We are now teaching traditional values and concepts to our students, standing firm against Western ideologies," Baburin concluded.
