The President of Belarus recounted how he had warned Vladimir Putin about the risk of an assassination conspiracy, urging his Russian counterpart to exercise extreme caution during international travels.

Tehran - BORNA - The Belta news agency reported that Aleksandr Lukashenko, referring to the recent Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian President’s residence in the Novgorod region, shared details with the media regarding his warnings to Vladimir Putin.

"Tonight, I recalled a conversation I had with Putin," Lukashenko told reporters. "I think it was before the BRICS summit in South Africa. He was packing his bags when I asked him, 'Where are you going?' He replied, 'Don't you know? We have the BRICS summit.' I asked if he intended to fly there."

According to the Belarusian President, this was a friendly exchange. Putin had said, "Well, they invited me, I am supposed to be there." However, Lukashenko responded: "Are you crazy? There is a war going on!"

'A Slap in Vigilance'

Lukashenko, who refers to Putin as his "older brother," shared further details. Putin had suggested that "they are not that crazy or extremist," to which Lukashenko replied: "Do you mean to say they are all sane there? You should not go at all!" Ultimately, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov attended the summit instead. "Maybe not because I pressured him, but I gave him my opinion," Lukashenko added.

The Belarusian President emphasized that his warning was not based on mere speculation. "It wasn't just casual talk. Our intelligence—and they have been doing a good job lately—informed us of certain conversations and rumors from the West, suggesting that a terrorist act against the Russian President was being prepared. I often tell him, 'A war is ongoing, you should not fly there. If someone needs something, they will fly to you.'"

Meetings in St. Petersburg and Distrust of the West

Lukashenko noted that Putin subsequently invited his closest friends to St. Petersburg. "His closest friends flew there, and others will follow, including Xi Jinping, people from Iran, and other countries. However, one must be cautious. Some people should not be trusted. I told him, 'You know best; you worked in intelligence, this is your area of expertise.' So, it wasn't recklessness, but a slip in vigilance."

The President of Belarus concluded by reflecting on the current situation: "Today, I thought about how right I was to warn him. It is clear that everyone in the West understands that if they remove Putin, everything will be different. This must be taken seriously. I am saying this for the first time today because one should not be careless. They have deceived him, and he constantly admits it."
