A Turkish Foreign Ministry source announced on Thursday that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to Turkey on Friday to hold talks with his counterpart, Hakan Fidan, regarding recent developments in Iran and tensions with the United States.

Tehran - BORNA - U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Iran on Wednesday with a military strike unless negotiations under U.S. conditions begin.

Reuters reported: Turkey, a NATO member that shares a border with Iran, has declared its opposition to any foreign intervention in its neighbor and has urged Washington to resolve its issues with Iran "one by one." Ankara has maintained contact with both sides, warning that instability in Iran at this juncture would exceed the region's management capacity. The source stated that Fidan will convey to Araghchi that Turkey is closely following developments in Iran and that the security, peace, and stability of Iran are of "great importance" to Ankara.

The source added that Fidan will reiterate Turkey's opposition to any military attack on Iran and warn that such an action would "create risks on a global scale." He will also offer Turkey’s support in helping to resolve the ongoing tensions with Washington.

Furthermore, the source noted that Fidan will "emphasize that Turkey supports finding a solution to the Iranian nuclear program as soon as possible and stands ready to assist in this matter if needed."

Previously, the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet reported that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had proposed a trilateral summit to Donald Trump, featuring the presidents of Iran, the United States, and Turkey—a proposal to which Trump has reportedly agreed.
