Iran has dismissed speculation about transferring its enriched uranium to another country as part of any potential nuclear agreement with the United States.

Tehran - BORNA - Ali Bagheri, the foreign policy head at Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), said on Monday that the country will not negotiate over its enriched uranium stockpiles.

“Iranian officials have no intention of transferring enriched nuclear materials to any country, and negotiations do not revolve around such matters at all,” Bagheri said.

Bagheri served as Iran’s deputy foreign minister for three years until May 2024, when he took over as caretaker foreign minister for a three-month period.

His comments followed remarks by a senior Russian official, who said Moscow is prepared to help ease rising military tensions between Iran and the US through proposals that could pave the way for a nuclear deal.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Russia had long offered to assist with processing or storing Iran's enriched uranium.

“Right now, Russia is continuing its efforts, continuing its contacts with all interested parties, and maintains its readiness to de-escalate tensions around Iran to the best of its ability,” Peskov was quoted as saying by Reuters.

SNSC chief Ali Larijani said on Saturday that a framework for nuclear talks between Iran and the US was making progress.

Larijani’s announcement came two days after his visit to Moscow and marked the first such statement amid renewed threats of US military action, as Washington has deployed a flotilla of warships to regional waters.

Iranian authorities have rejected the possibility of negotiating with the US under military pressure, warning that any attack on the country would provoke a severe response.
