Tehran - BORNA - During the call the European side informed Araghchi of their intention to officially notify the UN Security Council to initiate the so-called dispute resolution mechanism under the JCPOA, while also stressing their readiness to seek a diplomatic solution within the next 30 days to address outstanding issues and prevent the return of UN sanctions.
Iran’s foreign minister rejected the move by the three European countries as unjustified, illegal, and lacking any legal basis. Araghchi recalled Iran’s responsible and good-faith record in adhering to diplomacy on nuclear issues, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic will respond appropriately to any such unlawful and unwarranted action in order to safeguard its national rights and interests.
Reiterating Iran’s determination to defend its legal rights under international law and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Araghchi expressed hope that the three European countries will act responsibly and correct their misguided approach in the coming days by acknowledging existing realities.
