Tehran - BORNA - Esmaeil Baghaei, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, issued a media statement expressing regret over the persistence of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in reiterating the baseless and false claims made by the United Arab Emirates regarding the Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb.
Baghaei condemned the claims concerning these Iranian islands, which were included in the final statement of the 46th GCC Summit. He emphasized that the islands are an inseparable part of Iran’s territorial integrity, asserting that any territorial claim to them is fundamentally unfounded and invalid. He stated that such claims openly violate the principles of respecting countries' territorial integrity and good neighborliness.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson recalled Iran's effective, continuous, and undisputed sovereignty over the three islands throughout centuries, clarifying that "The repetition of a baseless claim against a part of a country's territory does not change the geographical and historical realities, nor does it legally create any right for the claimant."
The senior Iranian diplomat stressed the Islamic Republic's policy of good neighborliness and cooperation with neighboring countries to strengthen relations and safeguard regional security and stability. He called on the UAE and the GCC to refrain from adopting provocative positions that contravene the principle of good neighborliness toward Iran.
Furthermore, the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson reaffirmed Iran's right to pursue its interests in the Arash oil field. He deemed unilateral claims regarding this field invalid and stressed that the issuance of repetitive statements and the advancement of unilateral claims do not create any legal right for the Government of Kuwait. He concluded that reaching a fair and lasting agreement on the Arash field requires bilateral dialogue, joint effort, and the creation of a positive and constructive environment to secure mutual interests.
