Iran’s Saeed Esmaeili Claims World Gold in Greco-Roman Wrestling
Iranian wrestler Saeed Esmaeili has captured the gold medal in the 67kg weight class at the 2025 Greco-Roman World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.

Tehran - BORNA - On Sunday, Esmaeili faced Azerbaijan’s Hasrat Jafarov in the final, securing a hard-fought 2–1 victory to take the world title. The triumph marks a historic achievement for the 22-year-old Iranian prodigy, who won gold in his debut appearance at the World Championships.

Esmaeili’s path to glory was dominant: after receiving a bye in the opening round, he defeated Serbia’s Sebastian Nad 9–0, before overpowering Uzbekistan’s Shermukhammad Sheribjanov 8–1 in the following round.

The victory not only adds another gold to Iran’s tally in Zagreb but also underscores Esmaeili’s rise as one of the brightest young stars in Greco-Roman wrestling.
