Iran, Russia FMs hold consultations in Brazil
The foreign ministers of Iran and Russia met and held consultations in Brazil on the sidelines of a BRICS meeting on Sunday.

Tehran - BORNA - According to statement issued by the Iranian foreign ministry, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Ministers of Iran and Russia, met on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and discussed and consulted on the latest developments in the region.

In this meeting, while reviewing bilateral relations between Iran and Russia, regional developments following the aggression of the Zionist regime and the United States against our country were discussed.

Referring to the consequences and effects of the military aggression of the Zionist regime and the United States, the Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized the Islamic Republic of Iran’s determination to defend the country with authority and hold the aggressors accountable.

Referring to the fatal blow that the military aggression of the Zionist regime and the United States dealt to the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter, diplomacy, and the non-proliferation regime, the Foreign Minister emphasized the responsibility of the UN Security Council and all governments to fulfill their duties in preserving international peace and security.

In this meeting, the Russian Foreign Minister also referred to his country’s position in condemning the illegal attacks against Iran, including against peaceful nuclear facilities, and emphasized the importance of taking necessary measures to prevent the escalation of tension and insecurity in the region, and announced Russia’s readiness to assist in this regard, including at the level of the UN Security Council.
