Ceasefire in Gaza Officially Begins
Tehran - BORNA - According to Hebrew sources, the ceasefire agreement is now being implemented following weeks of negotiations aimed at ending the devastating conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced in an official statement that an agreement had been reached to end the war with the Israeli regime.
U.S. President Donald Trump, in remarks delivered Wednesday night local time following talks between Hamas and Israel in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, declared: “I am proud to announce that both Israel and Hamas have signed the first phase of our peace plan. This means that all hostages will soon be released, and Israel, as one of the first steps toward a strong, lasting, and permanent peace, will withdraw its forces to an agreed-upon line. All parties will be treated fairly.”
Trump added: “This is a great day for the Arab and Islamic world, for Israel, for all neighboring countries, and for the United States of America. We also thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who cooperated with us to make this historic and unprecedented event possible. Blessed are the peacemakers.”
The U.S. president also stated that he may travel to Egypt in the coming days to support the ongoing negotiations.
Meanwhile, Qatari officials announced that all provisions and implementation mechanisms of the first phase of the agreement — including the end of hostilities, release of Israeli prisoners, prisoner exchanges, and entry of humanitarian aid — have been finalized.
The announcement comes as the war in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, has so far resulted in the martyrdom of more than 67,000 Palestinians and injuries to over 169,000 others.
In a related development, the Axios news website quoted a U.S. official as saying that the war in Gaza has ended, and the release of hostages will take place 72 hours after the agreement is approved by the Israeli cabinet.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli regime’s prime minister, also thanked Donald Trump and his team for their efforts to secure the release of Israeli captives, announcing that the cabinet will meet tomorrow to ratify the agreement and oversee the return of all Israeli prisoners.
