Moein Azimi Crowned U23 Freestyle Wrestling World Champion

Tehran - BORNA - The Iranian athlete concluded a superb run at the U23 World Championship by securing the gold medal after defeating Mukhamed Khaniev of Russia with a 5-3 victory in the final. Azimi's dominant performance began in the early rounds, where he first overcame Sharzad Payanov of Uzbekistan 7-1, followed by an 8-0 shutout victory against Sadig Mustafazada of Azerbaijan. In a key match, he then defeated Joshua Barr of the United States with a commanding 13-3 score. His spot in the final was secured after a 12-1 technical victory over Ivan Chornohuz of Ukraine in the semi-finals. While Azimi celebrated the gold, Mohammad Bakhshi, Iran’s other representative in the first two weight classes of the competition, was eliminated after failing to advance past his rivals.
