Iran's Women's Handball Team Secures Semifinal Spot, Karimi Advances to Taekwondo Final
Iranian athletes competed across four disciplines on the eighth official day of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, adding to the nation's tally of 10 gold, 12 silver, and 17 bronze medals.

Tehran - BORNA - On Saturday, November 15, Iran was represented in Women’s Handball, Men’s and Women’s Taekwondo, Men’s and Women’s Wushu, and Men’s Duathlon.

Taekwondo

The Taekwondo competition saw mixed results, headlined by a strong performance from Saina Karimi in the women’s 46kg category. Karimi advanced to the final after a dominant run, defeating her Kazakh opponent in the opening round with scores of 15-2 and 12-0. She then secured her place in the semifinals by overcoming her Turkish rival in two consecutive rounds, before advancing to the gold medal match by beating Marima Zakary of Niger also in two rounds.

In the men's 74kg division, Ali Khoshravash began strongly, defeating Mohammed Al-Hawti from Bahrain 2-0 to reach the quarterfinals. However, he lost a tough encounter to the experienced Uzbek competitor Najmuddin Qasim Khujiev with a final score of 8-5, relegating him to the Repechage bracket. Amirmohammad Nasirahmadi (54kg) faced an early exit after losing a narrow and breathless match to his Saudi Arabian rival in the first round and then losing again to Turkey in the Repechage.

In the women's 57kg division, Hasti Mohammadi began her campaign by beating Bekmurzova of Kyrgyzstan by a 12-point difference to reach the quarterfinals. In the subsequent round, Mohammadi was defeated by her Turkish opponent in three rounds. Though she bounced back to win the second round 7-5, she ultimately lost the deciding round 6-3.

Handball

The Iranian Women’s National Handball Team secured their advancement to the semifinals after claiming their second victory of the tournament. The team defeated Guinea with a final score of 23-21, confirming their place in the final four of the competition.

Wushu

Iran's Wushu athletes delivered a clean sweep in their Sanda (fighting) bouts, with all three male representatives advancing to the quarterfinals by winning their respective matches 2-0. In the 60kg weight class, Amirhossein Hemmati defeated Berkay Ozan of Turkey. Erfan Moharrami secured his quarterfinal spot in the 70kg category by overcoming Marwan Mohamed Kandil of Egypt. Finally, Farbud Taleshi advanced in the 85kg division after defeating Ayit Khanov Ibrahim from Uzbekistan.

Duathlon

In the Men's Duathlon event (5km run, 20km cycle, 2.5km run), Iranian athletes narrowly missed the podium. Mohammadamir Rezaei finished his race in fourth place, just shy of a medal. Mohammad Sadr Amin finished closely behind him in fifth place, while Farid Hadipour finished tenth.
