Zelenskyy May Travel to Washington Amidst Geneva Talks
Tehran - BORNA - US media outlets have reported that officials from the United States and Ukraine are discussing the possibility of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveling to Washington next week.
The potential trip, first reported by CBS, is being planned amid US President Donald Trump’s push for Russia and Ukraine to reach a ceasefire by the Thanksgiving holiday.
Sources familiar with the discussions told CBS that the trip is also contingent on the outcome of the Washington-Kyiv talks currently taking place in Geneva.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Trump appears "very pleased" with the progress achieved in the negotiations with Ukraine in Geneva.
Controversy Over Trump’s Peace Plan
This reported potential visit comes shortly after Trump stated that the 28-point peace plan he presented to Russia and Ukraine is not necessarily the final version.
The peace plan, which surfaced in the media a few days ago, has reportedly angered and concerned Ukrainians and Europeans. They argue that the provisions of the plan are unilateral and heavily favor Russia. They have indicated that they are currently working on an alternative proposal.
