UNRWA urges global action to end Gaza blockade
Tehran - BORNA - In a social media post on Sunday, UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini revealed that the agency has been unable to deliver any aid to Gaza since March 2nd.
“I’ve been searching for something to feed my children, but there is nothing,” he lamented, adding, “How can one respond to such messages of despair? It shames me and amplifies the feeling of helplessness.”
Lazzarini pointed out that food supplies are just a few kilometers away and emphasized that UNRWA has enough stock outside Gaza to support the entire population for the next three months.
“We have not been allowed to bring any aid in since March 2nd,” he noted.
He characterized the situation as a man-made crisis, facilitated by the impunity afforded to the Israeli regime. Highlighting the urgent need for political intervention, Lazzarini stressed that only decisive political will can put an end to the ongoing starvation.
“Only political will and leadership can reverse full-fledged starvation,” he asserted.
In the past 24 hours, Gaza has reported 18 additional deaths related to starvation, bringing the total since October 2023 to 86, including 76 children. Approximately 17,000 children in Gaza are currently suffering from acute malnutrition.
