Esteghlal beat Sepahan to be hopeful to win 2026 PGPL title
Esteghlal FC of Tehran defeated Sepahan FC of Isfahan with a late goal in added time on Thursday to keep their hopes alive to win the title of the 2025/26 Iran’s Persian Gulf Professional League (PGPL).

Tehran - BORNA - Jasir Asani put the visiting Tehranian team into the lead from the penalty spot in the 10th minute but Esteghlal defender Rustamjon Ashurmatov scored an own goal just four minutes later.

Sepahan were dominant in the match and created so many scoring chances but their players failed to capitalize on their chances in Isfahan’s Naghsh-e Jahan Stadium.

Esmaeil Gholizadeh scored a late goal in 90+4' minute for Esteghlal.

Despite the loss, the Isfahani team are still at the top of the PGPL table with 30 points, two points above Persepolis.

Esteghlal are third with 25 points.
