Iranian envoy: Iran Embassy in Venezuela operating as usual
Iran’s ambassador to Venezuela said the Iranian embassy in Caracas is fully operational and continues to carry out its duties without interruption after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was kidnapped by the US.

Tehran - BORNA - Speaking to the reporters on Sunday, Ali Chegini stressed that there has been no discussion whatsoever about closing the embassy, even temporarily.

He stated that the diplomatic mission in Caracas is performing its duties with greater determination than before.

Chegini also said that all embassy staff are in good health.

The envoy added that Iranian nationals in Venezuela are also safe and in good health, noting that the embassy remains fully engaged in maintaining contact with them and providing services and assistance.

After months of threats and pressure tactics, the US on Saturday bombed Venezuela and toppled its president, Maduro, who was seized and taken to a detention center in New York, where he will be put on trial.

Maduro arrived on Saturday evening at an American military base after his “capture” by the US forces in Caracas.

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has slammed the “kidnapping” of Maduro, saying he is “the only president of Venezuela”.

US President Donald Trump said Washington will “run” Venezuela and tap its vast oil reserves, but he gave few details on how the US will do this.

The United Nations Security Council is due to meet on Monday on the matter, with Secretary General Antonio Guterres saying the US actions set “a dangerous precedent”.
