Ryabkov: Russia and China Facilitating Political Conditions for US-Iran Negotiations
Tehran - BORNA - Speaking to the "TASS" news agency, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated: "We remain in full contact with Iranian officials and, along with others, including our Chinese colleagues, are working to ensure a suitable political environment for negotiations between Iran and the United States."
He further added: "The focus is now on the negotiations that Iran is currently conducting with its partners regarding cooperation with the Americans, which Iran carries out indirectly, primarily through Arab mediators."
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister continued: "I believe this cooperation will continue."
Iran and the United States held another round of indirect negotiations regarding Tehran's nuclear program in Oman on February 6. The Iranian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the U.S. delegation was headed by Steve Witkoff, the Special Presidential Envoy.
BRICS is Not a Military Alliance
Regarding BRICS, Ryabkov emphasized that the bloc is not a military union or a collective security organization with comprehensive defense obligations, and there are no plans to change this structure.
He noted: "Regarding the recent naval exercises in the South African region, BRICS members participated as independent sovereign nations. This was not a BRICS-sponsored event."
