French Diplomat: Contrary to Rubio’s Claims, Iranians Make Precise Geopolitical Decisions
Tehran - BORNA - Gerard Araud, a veteran diplomat and former French Ambassador to the United States and the occupied territories, reacted to claims by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account. Rubio had asserted in separate press conferences with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán that Iranian officials are "extremist Shias" who make geopolitical decisions based on theology rather than geopolitics.
Publishing a segment of Rubio’s remarks from the press conference with Orbán, Araud wrote: "Based on our long experience of negotiations, believe me that, whatever the religious slogans, their final decision is always geopolitical, based on a careful and clever assessment of the balance of power. Moreover, most of them got their PhDs in US universities."
Araud has previously remarked on Iranian negotiators, stating: "The Iranians are among the most formidable negotiators I have ever seen; because they can go on for hours; they are incredibly smart."
