Maduro’s Court Hearing Postponed in New York
The next U.S. court appearance for Nicolás Maduro, originally scheduled for March 17 in New York, has been rescheduled to March 26.
Tehran - BORNA - U.S. prosecutors cited "scheduling and logistical issues" as the primary reason for the postponement. The request was granted by the judge with the consent of the defense counsel, though no further details regarding the logistical challenges were disclosed.
As reported by AFP, the 63-year-old Venezuelan leader first appeared in court on January 5, two days after his capture during a U.S. military operation in Venezuela. Maduro has pleaded not guilty to narco-trafficking charges, declaring himself a "prisoner of war."
His wife, Cilia Flores, who also maintains her innocence, was present during the previous proceedings. Both Maduro and Flores are expected to stand trial together on the new date of March 26.
