Carlson: Pushing the U.S. Into Confrontation With Iran Is a Betrayal of National Interests

Tehran - BORNA - The American host and political commentator discussed the structure of power in the United States, the role of the media, the 2020 election, and even the Iraq War, emphasizing that certain issues remain “taboo” in mainstream American media.

In an interview with the program “Al-Liwan” on Saudi Arabia’s Rotana Khalejia network, Carlson said the United States and many Western countries are governed by “self-interested and unwise” individuals who create artificial conflicts between nations to conceal their own performance.

He stated that while freedom exists in America, government influence over the media is “real,” and certain questions — including why Israel holds a special place in U.S. foreign policy — are either not raised in mainstream outlets or are not given convincing answers.

Carlson also said he feels ashamed of his past support for the Iraq War.

Reflecting on his experience on CNN’s Crossfire, he argued that the program’s cancellation in 2005 stemmed from Americans no longer wanting to hear opposing viewpoints.

Speaking about his tenure hosting Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News, Carlson claimed that major American media outlets push particular narratives on behalf of specific individuals.

He added that he personally avoids following U.S. media so as not to be influenced by what he described as “lies,” asserting that some narratives are written like movie scripts.

Carlson further claimed that the COVID pandemic was used as a tool to harm the public and that the 2020 U.S. presidential election was not conducted fairly. He also revealed that during his university years, he applied to join a U.S. intelligence agency but was not accepted.

Regarding his recent interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Carlson said he had broken one of America’s “taboos” and that his goal was to challenge and “shame” U.S. leadership.

He argued that ordinary Americans do not benefit from hostility toward Russia, while certain government-linked shareholders profit from such tensions.

Continuing his criticism of U.S. foreign policy, Carlson accused prominent political figures such as Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz of “betraying America.” According to him, by prioritizing Israel’s interests over those of American voters, they have abandoned their national responsibilities.

He also described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “evil and destructive,” calling him a threat to the world.

Carlson claimed that the United States had previously become involved in disastrous wars such as the Iraq War in line with Israel’s wishes.

He warned against what he called “ongoing pressure to launch a regime-change war in Iran,” describing such a move as “insane” and harmful to U.S. national security.

Carlson concluded by asserting that American leaders, by pledging greater loyalty to Israel than to their own country, have betrayed the United States.

He also argued that the concept of a “deep state” is not a conspiracy theory but a tangible reality, which he said consists of intelligence agencies, military commanders, and major corporate shareholders who run the country like a private company.

He added that major decisions — including entering wars or restructuring the economy — are never placed in the hands of American voters and are made outside the direct will of the people.
