Iran parliament panel considers plan for Strait of Hormuz oversight

Tehran - BORNA - Hassan Ghashghavi, spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said that during its latest session, the panel instructed various institutions—including the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—to submit their formal evaluations on the proposed legislation.

Ghashghavi stated that an initial working session took place Saturday with committee members, representatives from Parliament’s legal deputy, and the Parliamentary Research Center. He added that several executive agencies requested additional time to finalize and submit their recommendations.

The committee is currently evaluating 12 separate proposals concerning the strategic waterway, alongside submissions from international law experts, scholars, military officials, and government bodies.

"In light of new post-war conditions and the frameworks of international law, and with full consideration for preserving national security and interests, these proposals will be consolidated into a single unified bill for submission to the full Parliament," Ghashghavi said.

The spokesman added that broader national-level discussions on the consolidated bill are expected to begin next week once all institutional feedback is gathered.
