Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has arrived in the holy city of Najaf to participate in the Arbaeen pilgrimage, marking the 40th day of mourning for Imam Hussein.

Tehran - BORNA - The visit is strictly for the purpose of performing the Arbaeen pilgrimage and is not an official bilateral trip, with no formal political meetings scheduled.

The Arbaeen pilgrimage, one of the world's largest peaceful gatherings, draws tens of millions of participants annually who walk approximately 80 kilometers from Najaf to Karbala, commemorating the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his companions in the battle of Karbala in 680 CE.

During previous Arbaeen visits, Araghchi has inspected service convoys and Red Crescent relief teams along the Najaf-Karbala route, visiting roadside tents offering services to pilgrims. He is expected to meet with officials of the holy shrines during his stay.
