Saudi Arabia pursues Oman-mediated diplomacy with Yemen’s Ansarallah, Bloomberg reports

Tehran - BORNA - According to the report, Riyadh is seeking to avert a renewed cycle of confrontation through back-channel diplomacy, aiming to shield key economic infrastructure from potential retaliatory strikes.

Sources speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter noted that while Saudi Arabia is prioritizing diplomatic avenues, it is simultaneously preparing military options should back-channel talks fail.

Tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemeni armed forces have escalated in recent weeks following an attack on Sanaa International Airport and the tightening of flight restrictions. Yemeni forces condemned the action as a violation of previous agreements, responding with missile and drone strikes targeting installations in Saudi Arabia—including Abha Airport—while declaring a maritime blockade on Saudi ports.

Since the Saudi-led coalition launched its military campaign in Yemen in 2015, Sanaa International Airport has remained a central flashpoint. The coalition imposed an air blockade and severe restrictions that suspended commercial flights for years, drawing widespread criticism from international rights groups over the resulting humanitarian toll on millions of Yemeni civilians.

Yemeni armed forces have repeatedly warned that the continued blockade of Sanaa Airport and strikes on national infrastructure would not go unanswered.
