Pakistan, Qatar drafting separate document on Strait of Hormuz, report says
Pakistani and Qatari mediators are working to draft a new document focusing exclusively on the Strait of Hormuz, local media reported Wednesday, citing knowledgeable sources.
Tehran - BORNA - According to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in Islamabad, the sources indicated that a second memorandum of understanding is being prepared as a supplement to an initial agreement, specifically dedicated to arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz.
The development follows statements made Tuesday by Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei regarding ongoing consultations between Iran and Oman aimed at regulating safe maritime transit through the strategic waterway.
Baghaei noted that the Iranian-Omani discussions center on establishing designated safe inbound and outbound shipping lanes while safeguarding the national security interests and sovereign rights of both coastal states.
