No talks with U.S., Strait of Hormuz reopening tied to separate conditions, Araghchi says

Finalizing new maritime corridors with Oman

Addressing technical discussions with Muscat, Araghchi reported significant progress in determining new maritime transit routes within the Strait of Hormuz, noting that negotiations are currently in their final stages.

"Our negotiations with Oman pertain to defining new maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz," Araghchi said. "These talks have proceeded well, and I can say we are in the final stages. Legacy routes are set to be replaced with new pathways, and technical experts are currently working on the nautical maps."

Maritime agreement with Oman does not reopen the Strait

Araghchi emphasized that a prospective technical agreement with Oman over shipping lines does not equate to the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The reopening remains contingent on fulfilling a distinct set of broader conditions that have already been conveyed through intermediaries, Araghchi stated.

He explained that the maritime talks with Oman are strictly technical and legal in nature. While the previous navigation schemes were established in 1968, recent conflict demonstrated the necessity of updating these corridors.

Araghchi concluded that the new Omani-Iranian technical routes will serve as the operational standard whenever the decision is made to reopen the strategic waterway.
