Iran's Central Bank chief urges BRICS to transition from dialogue to concrete action
Tehran - BORNA - Hemmati expressed gratitude to the government and Central Bank of India for hosting the summit on its opening day, emphasizing the necessity of strengthening operational cooperation among BRICS members across monetary and financial sectors.
Hemmati highlighted that closer cooperation among BRICS nations can play a pivotal role in reinforcing stability, trust, and sustainable development.
"BRICS will achieve its maximum impact when it succeeds in translating policy dialogue into actionable initiatives and operational mechanisms," Hemmati stated.
Addressing current regional and international challenges, including military aggression against Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the CBI governor stressed that economic and financial stability cannot be realized without peace, respect for international law, and adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Iran's active participation and commitment to financial innovation
Highlighting Iran’s ongoing active involvement within the BRICS framework, Hemmati noted that since joining the bloc, the Central Bank of Iran has maintained a responsible presence in specialized working groups.
He stated that Iran has actively contributed to key domains, including cross-border payments, the use of national currencies, financial technologies, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and sustainable finance.
The central bank chief reaffirmed Tehran's support for initiatives aimed at reducing transaction costs and risks, facilitating national currency usage, and integrating payment infrastructures among member states.
New Development Bank and the future of global finance
Hemmati identified the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) as one of the group's most vital institutional achievements, stating that Iran is prepared to expand interactions with the institution and pursue the path toward membership through the cooperation and support of member nations.
Concluding his address, the CBI governor emphasized that BRICS can play a more effective role in shaping an international financial architecture that is more inclusive, balanced, and resilient.
