Iranian and Greek Foreign Ministers hold phone call on regional developments and maritime security

Tehran - BORNA - Araghchi pointed to ongoing military actions and aggressive policies by the United States against Iran, citing the continuation of a naval blockade and the violation of the June 18 agreement, while reaffirming Iran’s resolve to defend its national security and interests.

Outlining the progress of bilateral negotiations with Oman aimed at establishing safe transit corridors for vessels navigating through the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi asserted that maritime instability in the waterway stems directly from military actions by the U.S. and Israel, calling on the international community to hold the aggressors accountable.

The Iranian top diplomat also criticized the European Union's human rights stance, pointing to its support for Israel and inaction regarding Palestinian civilian casualties and operations in Lebanon and Iran. Araghchi rejected recent EU statements on Iranian domestic issues, stating that European nations lack moral authority on human rights matters.

Gerapetritis expressed support for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions and offered Greece’s readiness to provide technical and expert assistance.

Both foreign ministers concluded the call by agreeing to maintain ongoing consultations and safeguard long-standing bilateral relations between Tehran and Athens.
