The commander of the Armed Forces General Staff's Missing Persons Committee has called on Qatar to grant permission for an Iranian expert team to enter the country and investigate the status of three Iranian pilots allegedly held in Qatari custody, dismissing Doha's denial as obstruction.

Tehran - BORNA -  Brigadier General Seyed Mohammad Baqerzadeh said that a team of expert investigators from Iran's Air Force has been waiting for months to enter Qatar for a field investigation, but continuous obstruction and delay tactics by Qatari officials have prevented the return of the pilots.

Baqerzadeh's comments came after Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesman denied that the pilots were in custody. The Iranian commander rejected the denial and said Doha should allow the Iranian fact-finding team to enter Qatar instead of creating obstacles.

He also reiterated the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross in pursuing the matter, warning that Kuwait has similarly failed to provide information about the fate of four Iranian citizens held in that country.
