Araghchi discusses regional security, Hormuz navigation in calls with Iraqi, Turkish FMs

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held separate phone conversations with his Iraqi and Turkish counterparts to discuss regional developments, border security, diplomatic efforts and arrangements aimed at ensuring the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

Tehran - BORNA - In a phone call with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, the two sides exchanged views on the latest regional developments and issues of mutual interest.

Araghchi reiterated Iran’s principled position in support of Iraq’s security, stability and territorial integrity, stressing the need for vigilance against terrorist actions, including the attack on the office of the prime minister of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, as well as plots that could harm the friendly and brotherly relations between Tehran and Baghdad.

The two foreign ministers also underlined the importance of maintaining security and stability along the two countries’ shared borders and called for stronger cooperation and coordination to prevent any insecurity or threat to border security.

In a separate phone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Araghchi discussed bilateral relations and the latest regional developments.

The Iranian foreign minister briefed Fidan on the latest status of Iran’s bilateral talks with Oman regarding efforts to determine an appropriate mechanism for the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, stressing Iran’s determination to continue the process.

The two sides also reviewed the latest regional developments and ongoing diplomatic initiatives, emphasizing the need to sustain political and diplomatic efforts to manage the situation, prevent further escalation and strengthen regional stability and security.
