Iran’s national basketball team has been placed fifth in Asia in the latest FIBA power rankings for the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.

Tehran - BORNA - The International Basketball Federation released the latest edition of its power rankings ahead of the fourth qualifying window and the start of the second round of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Australia tops the rankings, followed by Japan, New Zealand, Lebanon and Iran in second through fifth place.

Qatar, China, the Philippines, Jordan, South Korea, Syria and Saudi Arabia occupy sixth through 12th place, respectively.

Iran enters the second round of qualifying with a 5-1 record from the opening round.

FIBA described Iran as one of the teams in strong form heading into the next window, highlighting the team’s three-game winning streak.

The report also pointed to the performances of Iran’s experienced players, singling out Arsalan Kazemi as one of the veterans continuing to attract attention with his all-around contributions on both ends of the court.

Australia leads the power rankings with a perfect 6-0 record, while New Zealand, Lebanon and Iran are also among the top five.

FIBA’s power rankings are not an official team ranking and are based on assessments of teams’ form and performances ahead of the fourth window of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.

Iran will face New Zealand and the Philippines in the fourth qualifying window, with both games scheduled to be played in Manila, the Philippines.
