CNN: Strait of Hormuz largely closed, only some tankers passing with Iran’s approval
The Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed, with Iran allowing only a limited number of tankers, including Iraqi vessels, to pass through the strategic waterway, CNN reported.
Tehran - BORNA - Citing reports in Iranian media, CNN said permission for Iraqi oil tankers to transit the strait was granted following repeated requests from Baghdad.
According to the report, securing passage for Iraqi tankers through the Strait of Hormuz was also among Baghdad’s main requests during a recent visit to Iraq by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
CNN said Iraq has been severely affected by the unrest and disruption to traffic through the waterway, adding that the authorization for Iraqi tankers represents the latest example of Iran selectively allowing certain vessels to pass through the strait.
