Iranian deputy FM challenges Bessent over contradictory claims on Iran

Tehran - BORNA - Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, wrote on X:

“Mr. Bessent, your narrative does not add up: You say Iran’s military capabilities have been ‘dismantled,’ 100 percent of its military factories ‘destroyed’ and its nuclear program ‘buried.’ Yet confronting this same Iran supposedly requires the ‘greatest financial offensive in history’ and the mobilization of ‘every agency and every authority’ in the United States. Is this a victory or an admission of U.S. defeat?”

In recent hostile remarks against Iran, Bessent said Washington’s objective was to “sever every economic lifeline” sustaining the Iranian government.

“The alternative for those who tether themselves to Tehran is the foreclosure of any path to lasting prosperity,” the U.S. Treasury secretary said.

According to Al Jazeera, Bessent also said, “Any nation that serves as a financial artery of a withering regime should expect to share in its isolation.”
