Pakistan’s army chief arrives in Tehran for high-level talks

Tehran - BORNA - Munir, who was welcomed by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, was accompanied by Pakistan’s Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi.

The Pakistani delegation is expected to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on expanding bilateral cooperation, strengthening border security and reviewing the latest regional developments.

According to Pakistan Television, the visit is aimed at finding a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and bringing recent crises to an end.

The report said Islamabad was seeking to present a comprehensive road map for consolidating regional peace and security.

The senior Pakistani officials’ visit comes ahead of a scheduled trip by Oman’s foreign minister to Tehran on Tuesday for talks with Iranian officials.

Analysts view Munir’s latest visit to Iran as an indication of the consolidation and growing international recognition of Islamabad’s mediation role.

They say the timing of his visit, alongside the Omani foreign minister’s planned talks in Tehran, has raised hopes for progress toward resolving issues including maritime security and the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
