Pakistan’s army chief vows continued efforts to restore regional stability

Tehran - BORNA - Munir and Ghalibaf held talks in Tehran on Monday afternoon as part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to help promote regional peace and security. The Pakistani military has also described the visit as part of Islamabad’s efforts to achieve a peaceful, lasting and comprehensive resolution to the regional conflict, according to Dawn.

During the meeting, Ghalibaf reviewed what he described as repeated U.S. breaches of its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

“The obligations of both sides under the memorandum are clear,” he said. “It was the United States that obstructed the restoration of stability in the region by failing to honor its commitments, providing yet another reason why it cannot be trusted.”

Rejecting any suggestion that pressure could influence the Islamic Republic, the Iranian chief negotiator added:

“We are pursuing the implementation of the terms of the memorandum. It is the United States that must abide by its obligations under the agreement.”

Munir, for his part, stressed that he would continue his efforts to restore stability in the region.
