Araghchi, Qatar PM discuss de-escalation, Hormuz shipping plan

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed the latest regional developments, de-escalation efforts and a proposed framework for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz during talks in Tehran on Thursday, according to Qatar.

Tehran - BORNA - Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said the two sides reviewed efforts aimed at reducing tensions and creating conditions conducive to dialogue.

The meeting also addressed a proposed phased framework for establishing a temporary joint shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz.

During the talks, the Qatari prime minister stressed the need to respect the sovereignty of neighboring countries as well as freedom of navigation.

Al Thani also emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to de-escalate tensions and resolve disputes through dialogue.

Araghchi, for his part, expressed appreciation for Qatar’s continued efforts to reduce tensions and support dialogue.
