Ghalibaf: US must fulfill commitments under memorandum of understanding
Tehran - BORNA - Ghalibaf made the remarks during a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who visited the Iranian Parliament in Tehran on Thursday.
Referring to repeated US violations of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, in which Qatar was among the mediators, Ghalibaf said the Trump administration was making decisions based on faulty information and miscalculations.
“The Trump administration makes wrong decisions based on wrong information, and through such miscalculations, it not only squanders America’s own financial, military and human resources and jeopardizes the future of the region, but also targets the interests of the Iranian people and creates prolonged insecurity across the region,” he said.
Ghalibaf said Washington’s economic blockade plan against Iran was the latest example of US hostility toward the country.
“This American plan will also prove futile, and the Iranian people will reclaim their rights with dignity,” he said. “It is the United States that must implement the conditions it committed to under the memorandum of understanding.”
For his part, the Qatari prime minister welcomed the recent Iran-Oman understanding on maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
Sheikh Mohammed said the ongoing diplomatic process could help restore stability to the region.
He also stressed Qatar’s efforts to advance initiatives aimed at restoring regional stability.
