Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned what it called the United States’ “economic terrorism” against the country, stressing the Iranian nation’s determination to use all available capacities to defend the homeland against the US-Israeli military and economic offensive and hybrid warfare.

Tehran - BORNA - The Foreign Ministry issued the following statement on the United States’ economic measures against Iran:

“The US administration, continuing its hostile and unlawful policies against Iran, unveiled a new wave of economic terrorism against Iran on Monday, Aug. 24, under the title ‘Operation Economic Exclusion,’ which constitutes an act of US state terrorism against Iran and the world.

“The United States’ abuse of the dollar as an instrument to intimidate other countries and force them to comply with Washington’s interventionist policies and violations of international law concerning Iran constitutes a violation of the national sovereignty and right to self-determination of all United Nations member states.

“US sanctions against Iran, by virtue of both their nature and consequences, constitute a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter. These sanctions violate the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of states and the principle prohibiting interference with cooperation among countries, as emphasized, among other instruments, in the Declaration on the Inadmissibility of Intervention and Interference in the Internal Affairs of States and the Declaration on Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations and Cooperation among States.

“The declaration of economic war against Iran is a continuation of the war of aggression that the United States and the Israeli regime have waged against Iran over the past year and a half under false and baseless pretexts, endangering regional and international peace and security. All of these actions violate international law.

“Regrettably, the indifference and appeasement of the United Nations system and its member states in the face of flagrant violations of international law by the United States and the Israeli regime have created an extremely dangerous pattern of lawlessness and the commission of the gravest international crimes, the consequences of which expose human civilization as a whole to an unprecedented threat.

“‘Operation Economic Exclusion’ in itself demonstrates the criminal intent of its planners and implementers to inflict pain and suffering on the Iranian people and deprive Iranian citizens of their fundamental human rights. It therefore constitutes an international crime and a crime against humanity.

“This policy constitutes a clear violation of fundamental human rights norms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international human rights covenants, and is contrary to Article 1(2) of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

“US sanctions also constitute a continuing violation of the International Court of Justice’s order of Oct. 3, 2018, which required the United States to remove all impediments and restrictions affecting the free flow of trade in, among other things, foodstuffs and agricultural commodities, medicines and medical devices, equipment and services necessary for the safety of civil aviation, as well as related financial transactions.

“The United States’ new sanctions policy has created a new situation, requiring the international community, including the organs of the United Nations, to take the necessary measures to safeguard the rule of law.

“US economic sanctions against Iran, regardless of the names or labels attached to them, are entirely unlawful and unjustified measures that violate the United Nations Charter, international humanitarian law and human rights law. Accordingly, all states are obliged to refrain from implementing such sanctions.

“All governments are likewise required to refrain from recognizing or endorsing situations and consequences arising from these unlawful measures.

“Participation in the implementation of unilateral US sanctions against Iran amounts to complicity in imposing the unlawful will of one state upon independent states and disrupting their legitimate economic and commercial relations. This, in turn, constitutes participation in undermining one of the most fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter: respect for the sovereign equality of states.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while condemning the United States’ economic terrorism, emphasizes the determination of the Iranian nation to use all available capacities to defend the homeland against the US-Israeli military-economic offensive and hybrid warfare.

“Without a doubt, the Iranian nation, united and steadfast, relying on its immense civilizational heritage, its inspiring religious and national teachings, and the accumulated experience of recent decades, will repel the hostile actions of its enemies and will continue to strengthen the power and authority of our homeland day by day.”
