Israeli media claims US rejected Saudi request to lead war against Ansarullah

Tehran - BORNA -  According to Kan, the Saudi request was raised during a meeting earlier this month between bin Salman and Gen. Brad Cooper, commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

Citing a source, the Israeli broadcaster said Washington turned down Riyadh’s request, particularly because Yemeni Armed Forces have not targeted US ships in the Red Sea.

The source added that Washington nevertheless told bin Salman it would support “Saudi military actions” against Yemen.

Kan said the Saudi request came as Riyadh sought to avoid becoming trapped once again in what it called the “Yemen quagmire,” based on its previous experience in the conflict.

The US rejection, meanwhile, was presented as a sign of Washington’s reluctance to open another front in the Middle East.

Sanaa has adopted what it calls a policy of “blockade for blockade and escalation for escalation,” saying the approach is a necessary response to Saudi aggression and is aimed at ending what it calls the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen.

Within that framework, the Yemeni Armed Forces have imposed restrictions on the passage of Saudi vessels in the Red Sea.

In July, the Yemeni Armed Forces announced the collapse of the 2022 ceasefire with Saudi Arabia and the imposition of a naval blockade against Riyadh following widespread public calls during mass Friday demonstrations in Sanaa and several other provinces.
