Iran's president: Iranian people won't allow great powers to override the will of nations

President Masoud Pezeshkian said the Iranian people, relying on domestic capacity and support for regional cooperation, will stand firm against foreign pressure and imposed policies, and will not allow the will of nations to be overridden by pressure from major powers.

Tehran - BORNA - Pezeshkian and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Kyrgyzstan, discussing the latest state of bilateral relations and ways to develop and deepen cooperation between the two countries.

Pezeshkian thanked Azerbaijan for its positive positions and cooperation with Iran during the Ramadan war, saying the sympathetic stances and constructive approaches shown by regional countries during difficult circumstances reflect the importance of solidarity and cooperation among the region's nations.

Stressing Iran's readiness to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan across various economic and trade fields, Pezeshkian described the existing potential between the two countries as extensive and significant, emphasizing the need to make use of this potential in the mutual interest of both nations.

Referring to efforts by adversaries to impose pressure, sanctions and an economic blockade on Iran, Pezeshkian said the Iranian people, relying on domestic capacity and support for regional cooperation, will stand firm against foreign pressure and imposed policies and will not allow the will of nations to be overridden by pressure from major powers.

Outlining Iran's view on the need for regional cooperation to establish and strengthen peace and stability, Pezeshkian said lasting security and stability in the region can be achieved through cooperation and dialogue among regional states, relying on local and regional capacities, adding that Iran welcomes the expansion of regional cooperation toward that goal.

Aliyev, for his part, expressed Azerbaijan's support and solidarity with the Iranian people and stressed the importance of strengthening friendly relations between the two countries. He emphasized the need to preserve and reinforce friendship and cooperation between the two governments and nations, saying Azerbaijan has always placed special value on its relations with Iran and pursues the development of bilateral ties in the interest of both nations' shared interests.

Aliyev also expressed Azerbaijan's readiness to advance and expand bilateral cooperation across various trade and economic fields, stressing the need to make use of existing capacities and create new avenues for cooperation between Tehran and Baku.

Both sides stressed the continuation of consultations and constructive dialogue, strengthening bilateral cooperation, and making use of existing capacities to expand relations between Iran and Azerbaijan.
