SCO leaders reaffirm support for Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity in summit statement

Tehran - BORNA -  The statement said member states "reaffirm their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran and call for resolving the conflict solely through political and diplomatic means."

According to Novosti news agency, the statement — issued following the summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan — said SCO member states expressed deep concern over developments in the Middle East and Iran.

Member states also offered condolences to Iran over the martyrdom of Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the Iranian Revolution's martyred Leader.

The statement said member states affirmed their position condemning military attacks against Iran that resulted in extensive civilian casualties, and reaffirmed their support for Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity while backing a diplomatic resolution.

The statement also said a just resolution of the Palestinian issue is the only way to guarantee peace, with member states affirming that achieving a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian issue is the only way to ensure peace and stability in the Middle East.

SCO member states also expressed their readiness to support peace, stability and development efforts in Afghanistan. The statement said: "Member states, reaffirming their commitment to Afghanistan becoming an independent, neutral and peaceful state, free of terrorism, war and narcotics, express their readiness to support the international community's efforts to establish peace, stability and development in that country."

It added: "Member states stress that forming an inclusive government, with broad participation of representatives from all of Afghan society's ethnic and political groups, is the only way to achieve lasting peace and stability in the country."

The statement also said: "SCO member states stressed the need to conclude an international instrument on guarantees to prevent an arms race in space, and also stressed the need to comply with the Chemical Weapons Convention."

The Bishkek summit statement said the next SCO summit will be held in Pakistan in 2027.
