Iran's Foreign Ministry condemns new US attacks, vows decisive defense

The Foreign Ministry strongly condemns the aggressive actions taken by the United States against our beloved homeland on the night of Tuesday, Sept. 1 [10 Shahrivar], and stresses the Islamic Republic of Iran's firm resolve to defend its independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The US regime, having grown desperate in the face of the Iranian people's iron resolve to defend the Iranian nation, once again violated Iran's national sovereignty and territorial integrity on the night of Tuesday, Sept. 2 [11 Shahrivar 1405], attacking several civilian areas and service infrastructure — including a number of towers and telecommunications sites — in Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan and Kerman provinces. The attacks killed and wounded a number of our citizens and caused damage to public and private property.

In an attack by the American enemy on a wedding celebration in Kuhestak, in Sirik County, Hormozgan province, more than 70 citizens were killed or wounded, most of them women and children.

These barbaric war crimes, which constitute a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law, recall previous US-Israeli crimes over the past year and a half, including the attacks on Minab and Lamerd.

In response to the US military aggression, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, exercising their inherent right to legitimate self-defense, struck US military bases that served as the origin and support base for US military aggression against Iran, delivering defensive and crushing blows.

The Islamic Republic of Iran firmly calls on regional countries to prevent American aggressors from using their facilities and territory to prepare and carry out aggressive operations against Iran, so as to help halt the continuation and spread of the fires of war in the region and prevent the sinister US-Israeli plot to impose permanent insecurity on the region from being realized.

While offering condolences for the martyrdom of our dear citizens, the Foreign Ministry reminds all governments of their responsibility to pursue, prosecute and punish the perpetrators and those who ordered these flagrant violations of international humanitarian law.

The Foreign Ministry once again reminds the United Nations, particularly the Security Council and the UN secretary-general, of their responsibility to fulfill their duties under the UN Charter. The silence and inaction of UN bodies in the face of the continued violation of the Charter's fundamental principles and rules — particularly Article 2(4) — by a permanent member of the Security Council will further undermine the organization's standing and pose a growing threat to international peace and security.
